Design Rationale
Intended as the container for an extensive art collection, Artbox is where design, building and art meet. Every detail of the project was vetted to adhere to the impeccable taste of its owners. A continuous plane of yellow cedar reaches from the second-floor cantilever through the ceiling of the house and out to the road, forming the soffit of the breezeway. Commercial-grade floor-to-ceiling windows give an unprecedented view of Cordova Bay, Mount Baker and the Strait. Custom basalt cladding and corten “walking” columns ground the two simple volumes of the home.
